JejeGuitarAddict's Monster Album: “Fractal Reason” In-Depth Review | Guitaronsky

Metal scene in Indonesia has been weakened after the the blowout of Indie movement in industrial music field. Today, many of us seldom to see metal music especially in any channels of Indonesian television. By this post, I just want to tell you all about a new wave of metal that has been brought to the surface by some creative young men and musicians who are care about metal existence in Indonesia. One of them is a very talented young guitar player from Jakarta. Many of musicians mention his name as the one who deserve peopleÂ’s attention especially for those who really addicted with metal. Some great names like Eet Sjahrani, Andrie Tidie or Firman al Hakim, are so impressed by his playing.

I myself voted him as the upcoming rock star. He would be well-known worldwide if people let themselves listening to his music over and over again. In Indonesia, he’s a new metal idol as you can see on his gigs in some great guitar show conducted nationally. Jeje has released a new single album :“Fractal Reason”. It has been well-rated by many of musicians and that release consecrates his name as the new star of national metal scene.

I got his album a couple weeks ago from himself and itÂ’s my duty to commit a post review about Jeje or at least some kind of illustration words about his creative work. So this time, IÂ’m going to write a review about his album before you guys get in touch with him everywhere on the web. IÂ’d say this is very special post I made because I used to find myself dropped off in an awkwardness everytime reviewing something. You might say that I have no good competencies on this, but today, IÂ’ll try my best to make sure that Jeje is the one who deserve your check.

Let me start off by saying IÂ’m always a bit apprehensive when it comes to listening to solely instrumental guitar albums. Now to draw your curiosity, IÂ’m going to start by exploring the first song on the album:"Fractal Reason"

“Break The Rules”
This tune is the opening of the album. From the title we may assume that the listener would release their freakiest mind by the hard and low tone of the sound setting. The intro is very deep in metal nuance and having a great riff as well. When the music start its walking the lines of guitar surprise your ears. The chromatic speed soloing at the beginning introduces us the awesomeness of the song. After that nice seconds, you may hear the awesomeness of the riff and the drum snapping. ItÂ’s like we entering a jungle of beasts then seeing every of them scrapping each others. The rest is virulence.

“Beat From Hell”
The hard sounds of the tone here was successfully bring the darkness and progressive nuance at the same time. So many surprising stuffs we would meet the 0:34. Some style like Trivium and Dream Theater will freshen your listening time. On 1:23 the vibe of shred soloing that appear will bring you to neoclassical-age, then another wonderful melody will be met on 1:54 which is started with a cool piano line then followed by some kind of Andy James sound style then closed by a shocking melodic shredding that I'd say that this is the energy of the song when Jeje shows us the mix of fusion style and metal shredding at once. I think two thumbs are still not enough to express our satisfaction in the end.

"Too Much Pressure"
As seen on the title, there will so much pressure that will be felt when listening into it. But I call it; an excitement. The first part of the song remind us to the Dragon Force in beat and riffs. Very noisy and tremendous at the same time. Jeje's soloing concept here on the tune might be influenced with some great guitar players like John Petrucci, Rusty Cooley, or Kiko Loureiro. A very matching playing of harmonical melody and alternate picking in hyper speed solo. It's like focusing our ears to the streaming of natural voice when the smooth playing of Jeje shown at 3:11. the bridge from one another is so progressively metal, that I'd say this is a very special song in this album. Our excitement won't stop until you hear the nuance created by the accoustic playing of Jeje at 3:54. And the closing time is just a smply will bang your heads up when a low sound like Alterbridge come out to us. the one you won't want to miss!

"Fearless"
This one need your fearless. I think Jeje has brought his best ability in playing in this song. He starts everything with a progressive metal lines like what have John Petrucci done in Constant Motion. I even can't pretend myself that I could feel that much. The shocking moment appeared when I heard some top notes played by sweep it up vaguely. My imagination then flew high and formed a savage dragon that want to come out from the darkness. the dynamic of this tune is like a mutant kid playing around with us. You'll taste it on the 1;30 then followed by the Maxim piano style at 1:44. Then without no breathing time the fierce riff just freakin' you out after those cool things. A very cool shred appears at 2:29. A varied technique of soloing will blow out your mind. With the modern rock track, his solo sounds so wonderful. The progressive beat and the unison of the diatonical tones and chromaticism at the end will really kickin' ass as well!

"Mental Illness"
I think I will be really contaminated by the mental illness delivered by this tune. if there's a hard screaming voice, you may say that this is the clone of Slipknot! So hard, deep, and dark. Completely insane! But the smartness of Jeje can be caught in 2:00. An urban melodic phrasing with the 90's drumming. No more words just check it out!

"Happy Alone"
This song is the relaxing moment because you will hear an alternative song rather than the metal one. It reminds us to SUM 41 or something. But still the solo are genius, as he can bring the real happiness around us. Here you will know how's the imaginative licks of Jeje in a modern alternative backing track. Great!

"I Just Wanna Run"
ThereÂ’s no hesitation in this song. You can hear the brutal playing of Jeje. ItÂ’s kind a tremendous speed metal tune. In the middle of the song, you can feel the Arabian lick style mixed with neoclassical lines. The sounds that appear from the alternate picking he play is absolutely the cool one. IÂ’d say that heÂ’s trying to express his anger and insanity. Some sweep picking stuffs will also break the wall. So watch out!

"Interlude"
If you like the tone of classic, then this is the very fit song to your will. The piano intro is just so cool. Followed by a nice melodic lines, this tune is genius. Jeje brings a new vibe of metal here. It might be the best interlude of songs in an album IÂ’ve ever heard.

"Riot City"
If we talk about a quality of a song, then we couldn’t find any shortages on this song. There would be no boundaries of quality here on this song. Jeje mixed so many progressive lines that bring the perfectness of a work. I’d say this is not an guitar instrumental, but a band instrumental. All parts of the instruments play their own role precisely. I even can’t believe that a sax playing fill the main part of this song. We’ll hear progressive, fusion, speed metal, and jazz. This is a “Richie Rich” masterpiece!

"Midnight Rain"
I was thinking that Jeje is a beast at first. But after listening to this tune, I believe that heÂ’s a kind of romantic or something. The playing of the piano will melt us down. So wonderful . My imagination then took me up to a view that thereÂ’s a beautiful princess waiting for your presence on her castle. Make sure that you wonÂ’t miss this one.

"DonÂ’t leave me (Outro)"
This is the second time I say that Jeje is a nice romantic person. I feel the comfortable melodic and nice acoustic harmonisation here. Each of us will directly say that Satch and Vai are here on the song. They both playing around on the fingerboard with their touch and idea. That's the word to describe how cool JejeÂ’s solo is on this song. So mature and deep. Jeje opens the door and close it with this outro in such an impressive way. Hats off for that...

Fractal Reasonis the third album of Jeje. He has released two others before. But Fractal Reason is the album that really represent the way he hit the music. So this one really need your check. Jeje is now preparing the publishing enhancement on the web. So it will be on iTunes and CD Baby soon. I'll publish the info once it done. Let's keep in touch on this.
